In the world of poker, a poker showdown is the climax of a hand. It's the point where all betting has concluded, and the remaining players must reveal their hole cards to determine who has the strongest hand and wins the accumulated pot. This phase only happens if two or more players are still active after the final betting round (known as the river in games like Texas Hold'em and Omaha). If one player's bet or raise causes all others to fold, that player wins the pot without needing to show their cards, thus avoiding a showdown.
When Does a Showdown Occur?
A showdown is triggered under a specific condition: more than one player must remain in the hand after the last round of betting has finished. For example, in Texas Hold'em, this happens after all actions on the river are complete. The sequence is simple:
- Pre-flop betting concludes.
- Flop betting concludes.
- Turn betting concludes.
- River betting concludes.
- If two or more players have not folded, the card showdown begins.

Who Shows Their Cards First?
